Santurce moves into top spot in BSNF

The Cangrejeras of Santurce defeated the Atenienses of Manatí 66-61 on Tuesday night in a Puerto Rico Women’s Basketball League (BSNF by its initials in Spanish) game at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in Hato Rey.


Santurce led at halftime, 36-35, then in the third quarter, consecutive baskets by Oshlynn Brown and Dayshalee Salamán gave the Cangrejeras a 42-39 lead with 7:12 remaining. With 32 seconds left in the quarter, a layup by Nairimar Vargas extended the 2024 champions’ lead to 54-45, their largest of the night.


Vargas and Shae Kelley each scored 13 points. Kelley also had 13 rebounds. Brown finished with 11 points for the new league leaders.


Pamela Rosado led Manatí with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chelsea Mitchell and India Pagán each scored 12 points, and Pagán also grabbed 12 rebounds. Kaela Hilaire chipped in with 10 points.


Manatí’s record fell to 4-6, putting them in a tie for seventh place with the Vaqueras of Hatillo.
