District IV (Mayagüez-Aguadilla) Sen. Jeison Rosa Ramos filed Senate Bill 1177 earlier this week, a measure aimed at creating and officially establishing the “Joyuda, Sabor Costero” tourist and gastronomic destination in the municipality of Cabo Rojo, with the purpose of strengthening the economic development of the western region and enhancing its culinary and tourist offerings.
The measure proposes ordering the Puerto Rico Tourism Company to develop a strategic plan for the development, marketing and promotion of the coastal fishing village and surrounding area, as well as the implementation of a signage system and organization of the tourist route that integrates restaurants, hotels and other attractions.
“Joyuda represents one of Puerto Rico’s main gastronomic assets, with enormous potential to continue growing as a regional economic engine,” Rosa Ramos said. “This measure seeks to give structure, visibility, and strategic direction to a resource that is already emblematic for the island.”
The legislator highlighted that the initiative, which he filed on Monday, also promotes interagency coordination and collaboration with the private sector, key elements in maximizing economic impact and improving visitor experience.
“With this proposal, we seek not only to strengthen Joyuda’s identity as a destination, but also to support our small and midsize businesses, generate jobs, and position Puerto Rico more competitively in gastronomic tourism,” he said.
The measure also includes the development of digital tools and informational material that facilitates access for local and foreign tourists to the area’s offerings, thus promoting an integrated and sustainable tourism model.
