South Coast Volleyball achieved its first victory of the season on Tuesday night, winning a close five-set match against the Barceloneta Ninjas in men’s Division B of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Confederation (COPUVO by its acronym in Spanish).


The match was held at the Caguas Private School court, where the home team prevailed with scores of 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 19-25 and 15-13 in a match that went down to the wire in the final set.


South Coast’s record is now 1-1 with an accumulated three points in the standings, while the Ninjas also have a 1-1 record, with five points.


Six-foot-four opposite hitter Erick Vázquez Martínez earned Most Valuable Player honors after leading South Coast’s offense and playing a key role at decisive moments in the match.
