Gov. Jenniffer González Colón announced on Monday a salary increase for 107 nursing employees of the State Insurance Fund Corp. (CFSE by its initials in Spanish), as part of an effort to recognize the work of healthcare professionals and strengthen the services offered to injured workers.

“Today we are announcing that 57 percent of the total workforce of nursing professionals providing healthcare services at the State Insurance Fund Corporation will receive a salary increase,” the governor said at a press conference in Aguadilla. “Of the total of 187 nursing professionals employed by the corporation, 107 of them will benefit from this salary increase, doing them justice and equating their compensation with that of 80 other professionals who already received higher salaries.”

González Colón emphasized that the measure represents part of her administration’s public policy to improve the working conditions of public servants.

“Public servants are key to the execution of our programmatic commitments,” she said. “Together with the agency heads, we are committed to doing justice to our workers, improving their working conditions and offering better services to the public.”

The salary adjustment, approved by the Financial Oversight & Management Board and the Office of Management & Budget, has an annual budget impact of $1.1 million, distributed among 16 nursing staff categories. According to the CFSE, a general practice nurse will go from $2,750 to $3,922 per month, while a nurse anesthetist will go from $3,508 to $7,578.

“This type of review seeks to correct historical salary inequalities and recognize the specialization and level of responsibility of each professional category within the Industrial Hospital,” the governor noted.

CFSE Administrator Enid Ortiz Rodríguez noted that the measure promotes salary equity and strengthens the corporation’s clinical team.

“This increase recognizes the dedication of our nursing professionals and ensures that everyone receives fair compensation commensurate with the responsibility they assume daily for the benefit of our injured workers,” she said in a written statement.
