Team Puerto Rico prepares for Caribbean Series in Mexico

Team Puerto Rico has been assembled and is already preparing to represent the island in the 2026 Caribbean Series, which will be held from Feb. 1 to Feb. 7 in Jalisco, Mexico.


Under the direction of Omar López, the team from the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League, known as La Pro, will have five days of practice, during which three exhibition games will be played. Training will begin next Monday at Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium in Carolina at a time to be announced shortly.


“We are pleased with the selection of the players who were available to join us in Mexico,” said Carlos Berroa, tournament director of La Pro. “They are all committed and focused on this important mission of representing our island.”


The 28-player team roster will consist primarily of players from the league champion Santurce Crabbers (Cangrejeros). The catchers will be Christian Vázquez and Juan Centeno. The infielders include winter league finals MVP Yohandy Morales, Shed Long Jr., Gabriel Cancel, Andrew Velázquez, Isan Díaz, Emmanuel Rivera and Jack López. The outfielders will be Jeremy Arocho, Johneshwy Fargas, Nelson Velázquez and Rubén Castro.


The pitching staff will include Eduardo Rivera, Collin Wiles, Brady Tedesco, Dereck Rodríguez, Daryl Thompson, Roel Ramírez, Andrew Marrero, Gabriel Rodríguez, Andrew Baker, Blane Abeyta, Chavez Fernander, Jordán Morales, David Lebrón, Derek West and Robert Gsellman.


The delegation will depart for Jalisco on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 7:07 a.m. on American Airlines flight 457, with a layover in Dallas, Texas, where they will arrive at 10:50 a.m. They will then depart for Guadalajara at 12:42 p.m., arriving at 3:27 p.m. (5:27 p.m. Puerto Rico time). Puerto Rico will debut on Sunday, Feb. 1 against Mexico Green at 1 p.m. (3 p.m. Puerto Rico time). All of Team Puerto Rico’s games will be broadcast on Wapa Deportes.
