Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles Cancel announced on Sunday the strengthening of public awareness and prevention efforts through the “Swim Safe PR” campaign, in response to a recent rash of tragic incidents reported at beaches due to marine conditions.
“We are addressing this matter with the seriousness and urgency it warrants,” Robles Cancel said in a written statement. “The safety of our residents and visitors is, and will continue to be, our priority. In light of these conditions, we are reinforcing our outreach efforts to create greater awareness regarding the importance of remaining alert and constantly checking for updates on sea conditions before enjoying our beaches.”
“This is a joint effort that requires everyone’s participation,” she added. “Inter-agency collaboration remains active -- working alongside security agencies, municipalities, and the tourism sector -- to strengthen prevention measures, expand signage, and ensure that information reaches the public clearly and in a timely manner. Safety is a shared responsibility, and we reiterate our call to exercise caution at all times.”
The official highlighted that the Swim Safe PR campaign remains active, focused on educating the public about safe practices -- including the meaning of the beach flag colors, the importance of following lifeguards’ instructions, and the need to pay attention to signage posted in coastal areas.
Robles Cancel also urged both residents and visitors to utilize available digital tools -- such as the platform www.swimsafepr.com -- where they can subscribe to receive daily notifications regarding marine conditions. Alerts are updated throughout the day and provide timely information regarding any changes to the flag warning system.
