The Puerto Rico Tourism Company, headed by Executive Director Carlos Mercado Santiago, welcomed on Tuesday the cruise ships Scarlet Lady of Virgin Voyages and the Silver Ray of SilverSea Cruises, whose joint arrival will generate an estimated economic impact of $2.2 million.

The Scarlet Lady, with capacity for 2,762 passengers and 1,150 crew members, will make 10 visits to San Juan during the 2024-2025 season, which represents a direct economic impact of some $2.1 million. The Silver Ray, which will complete two visits this fiscal year, will contribute about $130,000 to the local economy.

“The expansion of services and the inclusion of San Juan in the routes of these two specialized brands demonstrate the strength of our cruise sector and the attractiveness of Puerto Rico as a luxury and high-quality destination,” Mercado Santiago said in a written statement.

Clarivette Díaz, general manager of San Juan Global Port, emphasized the importance of the arrival of luxury cruises to promote local business opportunities.

“This growth will allow entrepreneurs to expand their offerings with high-level services, including the launch of premium options in the Port of San Juan, aligned with emerging market trends,” she said.

Both cruises, which recently completed their season in the Mediterranean, will make itineraries through the Caribbean and South America. The Silver Ray will visit destinations such as Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Argentina, while the Scarlet Lady, departing from Miami, will make stops in the Bahamas, Honduras, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
