UPR Golf Tournament, a fundraiser for scholarships, slated for Sept. 24

The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) will hold its second Golf Tournament on Thursday, Sept. 24, with the purpose of raising funds for the scholarship program and supporting students with financial need from its 11 campuses and units.
The tournament will be held at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach and Golf Resort in Rio Grande, and will feature six sponsorship categories for individual or group participation by companies, organizations and the general public. This year, UPR added a special alumni category, with a cost of $250 and a maximum of 40 slots.
UPR President Zayira Jordán Conde said the initiative is part of institutional efforts to diversify sources of income, expand alliances with different sectors and strengthen aid directed to students.
“Every contribution can become a real opportunity for a student to continue and complete their studies,” Jordán Conde said. “This tournament allows us to reconnect with our alumni, gain new allies, and channel that support directly to the university’s Scholarship Program. We invite the private sector, foundations, and the public to be part of an effort that will have a direct impact on the lives and futures of our students.”
The event is organized by the Vice Presidency of Philanthropy, the Office of Alumni and Development, and the UPR Foundation. Each participant or donor can designate their contribution to the campus, unit, or school of their choice, noted Carmen Patricia Parés Parés, vice president of philanthropy at UPR.
“We want our alumni to reconnect with their university and help open opportunities for a new generation of students,” Parés said. “Those who cannot play in person can also support the initiative and request that UPR student golfers participate on their behalf.”
Registration in the new alumni category is individual and non-transferable. To validate their eligibility, each participant must include their full name, both surnames, and the campus or unit from which they are an alumnus on the form. They may also optionally include their alumni number.
