University of Puerto Rico (UPR) President Zayira Jordán Conde announced Tuesday that the institution has made the final disbursement of $14 million to the Retirement Board, bringing the total amount to $131.9 million for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, as approved by the Financial Oversight and Management Board.
“These funds directly benefit more than 9,300 employees within the university system,” Jordán Conde said. “We are fulfilling our responsibility to ensure the financial security of our retired employees, who are our top priority.”
Regarding the case filed by the Retirement Board in the San Juan Court of First Instance, the UPR president clarified that an Aug. 1 court ruling denied a motion to dismiss submitted by the UPR and other co-defendants. However, she emphasized that the ruling does not make any judgment on the merits of the case or assign responsibility.
“We respect the judicial process and will submit the necessary responses within the timeframe established by the court,” Jordán Conde said. “Our focus remains on finding solutions that ensure transparency, compliance, and stability for the benefit of all sectors of our university.”
She reaffirmed the UPR administration’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, open dialogue, and defending the rights of all its employees and retirees.
