The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) has been ranked the best university in the Caribbean by the prestigious QS World University Rankings: Latin America & the Caribbean 2025, reaffirming its position as a regional leader in higher education and research.
In this year’s edition, the UPR ranks first among 24 Caribbean universities evaluated and 38th in Latin America, consolidating its academic prestige and international reach.
The ranking, prepared by the British firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the most respected university ranking systems globally, is based on key indicators such as academic reputation, employer opinion, research impact (citations per faculty), student-faculty ratio, the presence of international faculty and students, and the strength of its international research and employability network.
“This achievement confirms the leading role of the University of Puerto Rico in higher education in the region. Despite the challenges, our institution continues to consolidate itself as the leading institution for public education in the Caribbean and Latin America,” UPR President Zayira Jordán Conde said. “With more than a century of history, the UPR has demonstrated an extraordinary capacity to adapt, innovate, and advance. Looking to the future, our commitment is to transform the University, strengthen its mission, and ensure its sustainability, so that it continues to be a driving force of the country’s academic, scientific, and social development. This international recognition not only validates this trajectory but also expands our opportunities for global collaboration, student mobility, and institutional outreach.”
