Capitanes even B series with Santeros

The Vaqueros of Bayamón defeated the Gigantes of Carolina-Canóvanas 72-68 on Wednesday night at Carlos Miguel Mangual Coliseum in Canóvanas to take a 3-1 lead in the National Superior Basketball (BSN by its initials in Spanish) league Conference A semifinals.
The Capitanes of Arecibo, meanwhile, evened the Conference B semifinal series at 2-2 with a road win over the Santeros of Aguada.
Bayamón led 35-28 at halftime, extended the lead to 11 early in the third quarter, then held off Carolina the rest of the way.
Jassel Perez led the Vaqueros with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Javier Mojica scored 13 points and Gary Browne added 12.
George Conditt once again led the Gigantes with his third double-double of the season, recording 16 points and 11 rebounds. He was followed by Daniel Rivera with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Tremont Waters finished with 10 points.
At Ismael “Chavalillo” Delgado Coliseum in Aguada, the Capitanes beat the Santeros, 100-93.
After a tightly contested first half, Arecibo ramped up their offense in the third quarter, scoring 31 points to build a 77-62 lead.
Just when it seemed the Capitanes had the game in the bag -- leading by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter -- Aguada’s offense came alive with a run that narrowed the gap to just five points in the game’s closing stages.
Four players -- Derrick Walton, Isaiah Miles, Timothy Soares and Justin Reyes -- scored 17 points each for Arecibo, while Alfonso Plummer added 10 points and six assists.
John Holland, Joel Soriano (12 rebounds) and Rigoberto Mendoza each scored 17 points for Aguada, while Jacob Wiley and Iván Gandia added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
