Police reported on Wednesday that the woman who had sustained gunshot wounds in a femicide-suicide case reported at a residence in the Villodas neighborhood of Guayama has died.

According to authorities, a call to the 9-1-1 Emergency System on Tuesday morning alerted them to gunshots at the location. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a man who had taken his own life and a woman with gunshot wounds.

Police specified that the man was identified as Ferdinand Dávila Vélez, 56, while the woman was identified as Kenya Enid Morales Dávila, 37, who reportedly worked as a Head Start supervisor in the southeastern coastal town. According to official reports, the woman was transported to the Mennonite Hospital in Guayama, where she passed away on Wednesday.

It was reported that Officer Mary Ann Ramos Bermúdez of the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Guayama, along with Prosecutor Paloma Crespo, is in charge of the investigation.

Guayama Mayor O’brain Vázquez Molina issued a written statement in which he said: “With deep sorrow, we received the news of the passing of our beloved colleague from the Guayama Head Start Program, Kenya Morales.”

“Kenya was a committed public servant, a woman of faith, and an exemplary mother,” the mayor said. “To her family members, we extend our solidarity and our most sincere embrace. We pray that God grants them strength, comfort, and peace during this very difficult time.

“From the Municipal Administration, we remain in support of -- and in communication with -- both her family and her coworkers, who also mourn her passing. May she rest in peace.”
