Youth Double-A Baseball to open season Aug. 1 with 74 franchises

The Puerto Rico Baseball Federation announced on Tuesday that the 2026-27 season of the Youth Double-A Baseball League’s Roberto Alomar Tournament will begin on Aug. 1 with the participation of 74 franchises -- the highest number in recent years -- distributed across 13 sections.

Opening day will feature a doubleheader between the Próceres Jr. of Barranquitas and the defending champion Titans of Aibonito, starting at 10 a.m. at Hermanos Marrero Stadium in Aibonito. The remaining teams will begin their schedules on Aug. 8 with doubleheaders at their respective home fields.

The season will be dedicated to Julio Abreu Miranda, the team owner of the Lirios of Juncos, in recognition of his four decades of service and his contributions to the development of youth baseball in Puerto Rico.

The new season will feature 10 new franchises: the Jueyeros of Maunabo, Lobos of Arecibo, Phoenix of Bayamón, Raiders of Río Piedras, Llaneros of Toa Baja, BV 2 of Toa Alta, Cobayas of Carolina, Diamonds of Cayey, Plena of Salinas and Island Prospect (PRIP) of Gurabo.

According to the Federation, the league will involve more than 1,700 players throughout the season. The Youth Double-A League was founded in 1972 to promote the development of young baseball players in Puerto Rico.
