Aguas Buenas Mayor Karina Nieves Serrano demanded on Wednesday that grid operator LUMA Energy intervene immediately to address constant failures at the substation that supplies power to the municipality.
“The residents of Aguas Buenas deserve stable and reliable electric service,” Nieves Serrano stated in written remarks. “It is unacceptable that every time a failure occurs at this substation, a large portion of the municipality is left without power. This situation has become a recurring problem that affects the quality of life of our people.”
The mayor said that for approximately two weeks, residents have faced frequent and prolonged blackouts that have left a large part of the town without electrical service.
The interruptions have impacted homes, businesses, seniors, and individuals who rely on medical equipment to manage their health conditions.
Nieves Serrano said the municipality has received multiple complaints and grievances from citizens about the frequency of the interruptions.
She also pointed out a lack of clear information regarding the corrective actions that will be taken to permanently resolve the problem.
“We request that LUMA report the specific causes of these breakdowns, what measures are being taken to correct them, and what the work plan is to prevent continued interruptions that affect our town,” the mayor added.
