Aguas Buena Mayor Karina Nieves Serrano paid tribute to fallen soldiers, recognizing their bravery, dedication and sacrifice in defense of the nation, during the commemoration of Memorial Day on Monday.
The event, held at the Monument at Municipal Cemetery 1 in the eastern-central mountain town, brought together family members, veterans, and community members in a moving gathering dedicated to remembrance and respect for those who gave their lives fighting for their nation.
“Today, we pay tribute to those men and women who gave their lives for the nation,” the mayor said during the ceremonies. “With courage, honor and commitment, they fought to defend our values and became heroes to our people. This is a day of remembrance and gratitude. To their children, families, and friends, we reiterate our respect and solidarity.”
Notably, Aguas Buenas is home to the Veterans Counseling and Support Center, which offers services specifically tailored to the municipality’s veterans while also providing support to veterans across the entire island through comprehensive services.
“We reaffirm our commitment to continue developing initiatives, efforts, and spaces for recognition for the veteran community of Aguas Buenas, honoring the legacy of those who served with bravery and sacrifice,” Nieves Serrano said.
