The Integrated Transportation Authority (ATI by its initials in Spanish) held its third community meeting on Wednesday on the Alternatives Analysis for the extension of the Urban Train, where it presented preliminary results of the study that is evaluating different high-capacity public transportation options.

The event took place at the Arriví Theater in Santurce and allowed citizens, community leaders and other sectors to learn about the findings of the second-level evaluation, which examined alternatives considering demand projections, costs, environmental impacts, implementation feasibility and operational performance.

“The purpose of this meeting was to share information transparently, explain how these results were reached, and, above all, listen to the community, whose input is fundamental in defining the next steps of the project,” ATI Executive Director Josué Menéndez Agosto said in a written statement.

During the presentation, it was noted that after evaluating four alternatives that included modes such as Bus Rapid Transit, light rail and heavy rail, the preliminary results indicate that Bus Rapid Transit is the option with the best overall performance, balancing cost-effectiveness, investment costs, minimal impact on communities and properties, and operational experience for the agency.

The meeting included information stations, comment boards, question-and-answer sessions, and the option to submit feedback digitally, in addition to sign language interpretation services as part of the equitable access measures.
