Lawmaker seeks to boost renovations at Dorado beach

Rep. Elinette González Aguayo, who chairs the Natural Resources Committee in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, met with Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER) Secretary Waldemar Quiles Pérez recently to follow up on plans for reconditioning the grounds of Manuel “Nolo” Morales beach in Dorado.

“Our goal is to refurbish the Dorado beach resort, one of the most popular tourist destinations on Puerto Rico’s north coast,” said González Aguayo, who represents District 11 (Dorado, Vega Alta and Vega Baja). “We know that the [DNER] has been working on the four beaches it manages, including Manuel ‘Nolo’ Morales. From the House of Representatives, we want to support and expand these projects to include a new safety fence and improvements to the parking area, among other things.”

“We discussed with the secretary the need to continue rehabilitating the sanitary infrastructure, the bathrooms, as well as implementing a continuous ornamental maintenance program for this facility,” the legislator added.

At the meeting, held last week at the DNER offices in Río Piedras, the secretary welcomed the proposals presented, González Aguayo noted, adding that she will keep working with government agencies to ensure that the beach resort reaches its potential as a hub of tourist and commercial activity.
