Citizens’ help sought to find suspect in slaying of music producer at Caguas drive-thru

Puerto Rico Police Bureau Commissioner Col. Antonio López Figueroa held a press conference on Tuesday regarding the arrest of a man and the detention of a minor in relation to the murder of Ángel Manuel Díaz Ramírez, 25, a music producer who was shot dead in the Burger King drive-thru at the Shops at Caguas shopping center.

“All these people who participated in this belong to the organization ‘Los Viraos’ from Cayey,” López Figueroa said.

In the early hours of Monday, a call through the 9-1-1 Emergency System alerted authorities about a person wounded by a gunshot inside a vehicle. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the lifeless body of Díaz Ramírez, a Caguas resident, inside a Toyota Tacoma truck.

López Figueroa said four individuals participated in the slaying. He requested the cooperation of the public to locate one of these young men, identified as Yadniel Alberto Maldonado Berríos, who is 19 years old and a resident of Cayey.

“We are asking the public to help us identify this individual,” the police commissioner said. “We need to identify the whereabouts of this person. We have a task force [on the case] -- Homicides, the Robbery Unit, the Criminal Intelligence Division, the Drug Division, Stolen Vehicles, each and every one of the Police divisions, they are all together and we are announcing that today charges will be filed against these individuals.”

López Figueroa added that there is film evidence, among other pieces of evidence.

“To the family of Ángel Manuel Díaz Ramírez, my condolences,” he said. “Know that the Police are available and always ready to provide the service that we are responsible for, which is security. In this case, the death of Ángel Manuel should not go unpunished.”

Anyone with information that helps solve the case is encouraged to contact the Homicide Division of the Caguas Criminal Investigation Corps at 787.744.0322- extension 1260 or the confidential line of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau at 787.343.2020.
