Guaynabo activates plan for areas without service due to La Plata breakdown

In addition to tanker trucks, crews of Guaynabo municipal employees were distributing bottled water in the Guaraguao community, one of the hardest-hit areas, on Sunday due to a water service outage caused by a pump failure. The crews will gradually move on to the other affected communities.

Guaynabo Mayor Edward O’Neill Rosa activated the municipal emergency plan on Sunday to assist communities affected by a drinking water service interruption caused by a suction pump failure at the La Plata reservoir.

As part of the response, the municipality deployed 20 water tanker trucks to tour the communities and directly fill residents’ cisterns and containers. Additionally, four fixed water distribution points, or “oases,” where citizens can fill their own containers, have been set up on Washington Avenue; at the Guaraguao Neighborhood Multi-Service Center; at Pórticos de Guaynabo, Santa Rosa III; and at the Juanillo Fuentes School, Canta Gallo sector.

The areas affected by the municipal operation are:

Zone 1: Frailes Ward, Piedras Blancas, Los Báez Sector, Camarones Ward.

Zone 2: Santa Rosa Ward (Sections I, II, and III), Guaraguao Ward.

Zone 3: Río Ward, Hato Nuevo Ward, Sonadora Ward.

“We have mobilized our municipal directors and staff to expand our work crews so we can reach more communities and assist them during this emergency,” the mayor said. “At the same time, I remain in contact with officials from the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority to stay updated on repair progress. This situation has impacted so many communities in our city, and our priority is to bring them aid while service is being restored.”

“We will not stop our efforts as long as our communities need assistance,” O’Neill Rosa added. “I am deeply grateful to our municipal employees for the extra mile they are always willing to go to serve our citizens.”
