In its commitment to promote and protect the socioeconomic development of the island, the Certified Public Accountants Association of Puerto Rico (CCPA by its initials in Spanish), as it does every election year, has developed its recommendations for candidates for governor.
The document will be presented on Friday, Aug. 30 as part of the CCPA’s Annual Convention “Bringing Generations Together,” to be held at El Conquistador Resort.
“These recommendations focus on the health sector, education, the economy, public financial administration, and the tax system,” CCPA President Edmy A. Rivera Colón said on Sunday. “We believe, as an institution, that these areas are fundamental to continuing with the socioeconomic development of Puerto Rico. In this meeting that we will have with the candidates, the recommendations will be discussed in depth, which we hope will be considered and included in their government platforms.”
Rivera Colón said convention-related events will begin today with a webinar program that will run through noon on Wednesday. Activities will then continue at El Conquistador Resort with in-person seminars on Thursday and Friday.
“This year, participating CPAs will be able to complete up to 21.5 credit hours of continuing education in topics such as ethics, accounting and auditing, and contributions, among others,” the CCPA president said. “In addition, during the luncheon on August 29, we will have the participation of CPA Carla McCall, president of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). On Saturday, August 31, the Annual Assembly will be held and the 2024-2025 Board of Governors, which will be elected, will be announced.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, accounting students will be able to participate in the 17th Leadership Conference.
“The motto during my year [as president] has been ‘Bringing Generations Together,’ so we invite all university students to be part of this activity where they will have the opportunity to meet their future colleagues.”
The convention’s social events begin on Thursday with a welcome cocktail, hosted by DJ Sergio and Makein. On Friday, attendees will enjoy the music of Oscarito and Luva; while on Saturday, on the Gala Night, they will dance to the rhythm of Machúcalo: Tribute to Los Hermanos Rosario, and Norberto Vélez y su Escuadrón. At the end of the gala there will be an “after party” with the band Sí, Señor.
