Dorado earns doubleheader sweep against Vega Alta in COLICEBA

The Guapos of Dorado, Guayacanes of Guayanilla, Caciques of Orocovis, Atléticos of Barranquitas, Halcones of Gurabo, Azucareros of Yabucoa, Sabaneros of Cidra, Olímpicos of Comerío, Jardineros of Aibonito, and Tigres of Aguas Buenas all notched victories on Sunday in the Amateur Baseball League Confederation (COLICEBA by its acronym in Spanish).
The Guapos swept their doubleheader against the Maceteros of Vega Alta, 5-4 and 6-1. In the first game, Dorado staged a comeback with a three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning. Ian Laureano and Carlos Medina each drove in two runs.
In the second game, right-hander Jorge Benítez led the defending champions to victory by striking out seven batters over five innings while allowing just one run.
Also in the North Section, the Caciques and Atléticos split their doubleheader. Orocovis dominated the first game 8-2, backed by a solid performance from Dereck Rodríguez, who struck out six batters over five and one-third innings. Ricardo de la Torre drove in three runs and hit a home run.
Barranquitas bounced back in the second game, winning 10-7 after scoring five runs in the top of the ninth.
In the South Section, the Guayacanes swept the Illescanos of Coamo, 6-3 and 10-2. In the first game, Guayanilla benefited from a brilliant relief performance by Jeremy Infante, who pitched three innings to earn the win. In the second game, six of the Guayacanes’ 10 runs came in the top of the seventh. Left-hander Ojani Chacón pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win.
In the East, the Halcones and Azucareros split their doubleheader, 6-2, and a 7-1, respectively.
In the Central section, the Sabaneros took the first game 3-1 against the Olímpicos, powered by three RBIs from Santis Sánchez, who hit a home run. Comerío bounced back in the nightcap for its first win of the season, 4-3. Jamal George led the Olímpicos with a home run.
Meanwhile, the Jardineros and the Tigres split their twin bill. Aibonito won the first game 6-1, backed by four and one-third innings from Luis Berríos. Aguas Buenas took the nightcap 6-2 on a game-winning home run by Luis Curbelo in the bottom of the eighth.
