UPR Bayamón & Sagrado Corazón crowned at LAI 3x3

The Vaqueras of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) at Bayamón and the Delfines of Sacred Heart University (USC by its initials in Spanish) were crowned champions of the Interuniversity Athletic League (LAI) 3x3 basketball tournament on Sunday at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan.

UPR-Bayamón defeated the Taínas of Ana G. Méndez University 22-11 in the final. The Vaqueras scored 109 points and allowed 51 throughout the tournament, and no opponent managed to score more than 15 points against them.

“This was the goal from the beginning; we prepared for this,” UPR-Bayamón’s Arianis Rivera said in a written statement. “The key is to always stay calm; defense is the key because the points come naturally.” 

Meanwhile, USC defeated UPR-Ponce, 21-17, while the Taínas took third place by defeating UPR-Arecibo.
