The interim mayor of the Autonomous Municipality of Dorado, Aníbal José Torres, announced Monday that he has officially filed all necessary documentation to run for the vacant position of mayor, following the recent death of Mayor Carlos A. López Rivera.
“With deep respect for the legacy of our beloved Mayor Carlitos López and a commitment to continue his Dorado 2035 vision, I have officially submitted my candidacy to serve as mayor,” Torres stated. “For the past three years, I have had the honor of serving as municipal administrator, working closely with the mayor on projects that continue to transform Dorado into the true Paradise of Puerto Rico.”
Torres, whose political career has included stints as La Fortaleza chief of staff (from 2005 to 2009 under Gov. Aníbal Acevedo Vilá), and Popular Democratic Party secretary general and senator, expressed his gratitude for the numerous expressions of support he has received from the people of Dorado.
“Every gesture, every word, and every hug from the community reinforces my belief that our path forward is one of hard work, unity, and continuity,” he said. “Together, we will advance with the same strength, passion, and commitment that characterized our mayor’s administration.”
The candidate emphasized that his decision is driven by the deep love and respect he has for his community, as well as the responsibility to uphold the work and vision that has steered the municipality toward economic, social and community development, which distinguishes Dorado today.
“Dorado continues to exemplify planning, progress, and hope,” Torres said. “That is the path we forged together with Carlitos, and we will continue to strengthen it with the involvement of our people. The future of Dorado remains bright, fueled by the same spirit of service and faith in our community.”
