Family services center offers wellness event to round out Women’s Month.

As part of the closing of Women’s Month, integrated family services center Vimenti, in collaboration with community allies, recently held a wellness event called “Projection: Beyond Appearance,” which was designed to promote the integral well-being, empowerment and personal development of women participating in its programs and nearby communities.

“These types of spaces are fundamental for strengthening self-esteem, personal leadership, and informed decision-making among our participants,” said Elianela Román, Vimenti case manager. “At Vimenti, we are committed to a holistic approach that recognizes emotional well-being as a key component for social and economic progress.”

The initiative brought together women from the Berwind Intermedia community and residents of Manuel A. Pérez residential complex in San Juan at the Manuel A. Pérez Community Center, fostering an environment of connection, self-care and collective growth. According to the organization’s most recent data, for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, 49% of participating families are headed by single mothers.

The event’s agenda included a workshop facilitated by a clinical psychologist, group reflection sessions, and wellness experiences such as manicures and massages. Educational institutions and short-cycle career programs also participated with information booths, providing attendees with access to concrete opportunities for professional development and economic advancement.

The event, which also included lunch and snacks, was part of Vimenti’s efforts to impact not only its direct participants but also their communities, promoting initiatives that integrate well-being, education, and access to opportunities.

Now in its seventh year of operation, Vimenti is reporting impactful results in its mission to eradicate child poverty in Puerto Rico through an integrated service offering based on the Two Generations Model. During this time, Vimenti has served 1,745 people and 102,451 meals, achieving a 12% reduction in poverty among participating families.
