Gov. Jenniffer GonzĆ”lez Colón on Monday signed the Municipality of LoĆzaās first territorial development plan alongside Mayor Julia Nazario Fuentes.
āThis Plan allows LoĆza to grow in an orderly manner, protecting its resources and creating new opportunities for its people,ā the governor stated in written remarks.
āWe have never had a Territorial Ordering Plan before,ā Nazario added. āI want to thank the Governor for affixing her signature, as well as my planning team, who -- working in conjunction with the state planning agency -- labored until this document was fully aligned with the recommendations of our citizens.ā
The plan strengthens the commercial corridor along Route PR-187, promotes a compact, mixed-use urban center, and stipulates that urban growth must be harmonized with the protection of the natural and cultural resources that distinguish LoĆza.
Furthermore, it recognizes tourism development as a strategic component for the islandās eastern region by incorporating infrastructure projects, the creation of public spaces, and the establishment of a tourism route consortium in collaboration with neighboring municipalities.
Puerto Rico Planning Board Chairman HĆ©ctor Morales MartĆnez noted that the plan provides LoĆza with a tool to guide its growth, strengthen its economy, and protect its resources, in accordance with the governmentās public policy on planning.
The signing of the plan also aims to expand municipal autonomy, reinforce environmental protection, and promote risk mitigation initiatives -- including those addressing the challenge posed by coastal erosion -- with the ultimate goal of strengthening resilience and improving the quality of life for the residents of LoĆza.
