Governor declares 3 days of mourning for TV personality Eddie Miró

Gov. Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia on Monday declared three days of mourning following the death last week of local television heavyweight Eddie Miró, for which flags at government buildings will be flown at half-staff from Tuesday through Thursday of this week.
“Eddie Miró became an icon of Puerto Ricn television because of his outstanding work in front of and behind the cameras,” the governor said in a written statement. “His dedication as an animator, actor, producer and writer made him worthy of multiple recognitions during his five-decade career, but above all, he won the warmth and admiration of the public.”
“My profound solidarity with his family, especially with his wife Ita and his daughters, Dana, Michelle and Christie,” Pierluisi added. “The people of Puerto Rico lose a great artist whose contributions will not be forgotten and will serve as a reference for future generations.”
Miró, who was born in Humacao and was known as the man with the eternal smile, was a presenter in emblematic programs of Puerto Rican television such as “El Show de las 12,” “Super Sábados” and “Noche de Gala,” in which he shared airtime with local and international artists. He was a comedian and writer of productions such as “El Profesor Colgate” and “La Taberna India,” among many others.
His work in the communication media was honored in 2022, when he received the Gold Circle Award from the Suncoast Chapter of the Television Arts and Sciences in recognition of his career and contribution to the arts.
Pierluisi recently signed into law House Joint Resolution 551, which designates the outside terrace of the Humacao Fine Arts Center with the name of Eddie Miró.
