Variable to unstable weather conditions will persist through Friday, bringing periods of showers and some thunderstorms -- particularly in the afternoon -- along with a localized risk of flooding, according to weather forecasters.
A moderate risk of dangerous marine currents remained in effect Thursday for several beaches, especially those along the northern and eastern coasts, with continuing caution advised.
Conditions were expected to improve by Saturday, as drier air moves in and the weather becomes more stable, returning to a more typical pattern with less rainfall.
On Friday, localized heavy rains were expected to continue from Thursday, while a trough maintains unstable conditions that favor the development of showers and some thunderstorms. Sufficient moisture will be present to generate showers, primarily during the afternoon. The morning hours will be quieter, but rain activity will increase in the interior and western regions of Puerto Rico during the afternoon. A risk of flooding exists in these areas should heavy rain occur.
Conditions were set to improve by Saturday, which is expected to be the driest and most stable day of this period. Atmospheric moisture levels will drop from elevated levels to levels more typical for this time of year. Additionally, at upper levels, the trough will shift further to the east, creating a more stable and slightly warmer atmospheric environment.
Consequently, few showers are expected in the morning on Saturday, followed by some isolated showers in the afternoon -- mainly across western Puerto Rico.
