Municipal Revenue Collections Center (CRIM) Executive Director Reinaldo Paniagua announced Monday that a new mapping plan is currently in progress for the reassessment of property taxes.

Initially, the project was set to begin only in the western region, but it has now been expanded to include the southern region of Puerto Rico, including the Ponce area, which serves 11 municipalities.

“We have a special project focused on mapping and appraisals, covering two municipalities at a time,” Paniagua said. “This initiative started in January of this year, and we are currently wrapping up our work in the municipalities of Coamo and Ponce.”

“Following this, we will move on to two more municipalities. I expect that by the end of September, we will complete the update of property valuations and incorporate them into our database,” he added. “During this process, we are discovering properties that will be subject to taxation, and we encourage taxpayers who have not previously done so to request exemptions.”

“Our goal is to gain a clear understanding of property ownership and the actual situation in each area,” the official continued. “This is crucial for the taxpayers, as it ensures they can access state or federal aid in the event of a natural disaster, provided they are properly registered.”

CRIM is the agency responsible for determining and collecting property taxes. The agency bills twice a year; the first bill is in July (first semester) and the second in January (second semester).

This looks like a much-needed step toward improving transparency and bringing more properties into the tax system. Updating valuations and mapping should help create a fairer structure for everyone involved.

It’s interesting to see how different regions are modernizing property oversight; similar shifts are happening in markets offering property management, where data and accurate valuations are becoming key to long-term stability.

This is a significant step toward improving transparency in the real estate sector. Accurate mapping and updated property appraisals not only ensure fair taxation but also help create a clearer picture of property ownership and market value. As highlighted, identifying previously unregistered properties and updating valuations can strengthen the overall property database and even improve access to financial aid and planning resources for owners.

Ultimately, initiatives like this contribute to a more organized, data-driven real estate market that benefits both investors and communities. Visit commercial property agents

This is a really important initiative, especially when it comes to improving transparency and accuracy in property taxation. A proper mapping and appraisal system can help governments identify unregistered properties and ensure fair tax distribution, which ultimately strengthens public services and disaster support systems.  At the same time, updates like these can sometimes create challenges for property owners who need to stay compliant with changing valuations and regulations. Having professional guidance becomes essential in such situations to manage assets efficiently and avoid complications. That’s where reliable property management services can really help in handling day-to-day responsibilities while staying aligned with evolving property frameworks.
