With the Atlantic hurricane season rapidly approaching, local non-profit organization Techos Pa’ Mi Gente (Roofs for My People) has announced it will host its 2nd Annual Community Hurricane Preparedness Fair.
The event is designed to equip residents of the San José, Embalse San José and Valencia communities -- as well as the general public -- with the tools and knowledge needed to prepare for potential severe weather.
The fair is scheduled for this Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be held at the Techos Pa’ Mi Gente (TPMG) facilities at 327 Almería Street in the Valencia Urbanization of San Juan.
Attendees will have access to educational workshops, informational booths, and expert guidance on essential safety protocols before, during and after a storm. Emergency supplies and shopping opportunities will be available on-site while supplies last, and a complimentary lunch will be provided to the first 100 participants.
A headline event of the fair features meteorologist Carlos Omar Rivera, who will deliver a special presentation at 10 a.m. detailing critical updates for the 2026 hurricane season alongside practical weather preparedness strategies.
Organizers have also structured the fair to be a family-friendly environment. Activities for children include a special 11 a.m. appearance by the beloved children’s character El Trotamundos, along with a distribution of storybooks while supplies last.
“This type of initiative seeks to strengthen community preparedness and create accessible spaces where people can learn, prepare, and connect with important resources to face hurricane season,” TPMG Executive Director Amarilis González said.
More information regarding the event, or about volunteer, donation and sponsorship opportunities, is available on the official TPMG platform.
