Gov. Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia announced Thursday that he signed into law several measures to improve the quality of life of older adults, promote road safety for minors, and support nonprofit organizations.

Among the measures enacted by Pierluisi is House Bill 1195, which amends Law 58-2018, known as the “Law to Promote Well-Being and Improve the Quality of Life of Older Adults.” The amendment seeks to strengthen the “Master Entrepreneurship” program, which is designed to empower older adults to start their own businesses, and create new initiatives to improve transportation services for the older adult population. It also establishes that government agencies must include in their reports a chapter on the implementation and effectiveness of programs aimed at the senior population, guaranteeing greater transparency and public scrutiny.

The governor also signed House Bill 1769, introducing the “Protective Seat Collection, Reuse, and Recycling Program.” The initiative, designed to collect and reuse protective and booster seats for children, will provide a safety net for families who may struggle to afford the essential items.

Additionally, House Bill 1541, amending Law 73-2019, was signed into law. The amendment exempts nonprofit organizations that do not charge government entities for their services from the cost of issuing eligibility certificates.
