With the start of the NORCECA (North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) Women’s Final Six underway in Mexico, the coach of the Puerto Rican National Volleyball Team, Juan Carlos Núñez, made the team’s focus clear: to close the year with health, determination and valuable points for the world ranking.

“This is the last tournament of the year; it’s been a long summer with the same players, and we want to finish well,” Núñez said. “It’s important for us to put on a strong performance against the teams that can earn us points for the world ranking. We want to finish in the best possible way and with health. We’re going to put in the best performance possible.”

The tournament, which began Monday and runs to Sunday in Guadalajara, Jalisco, brings together the women’s national teams from Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States. In addition to providing world ranking points, the event is key on the road to the 2026 NORCECA Continental Championship, an Olympic qualifier.

The coaches of the six participating nations shared their thoughts and expectations:

* Matthew Krueger (Canada) highlighted the return of young players and the depth of his program.

* Luizomar De Moura (Cuba) celebrated the start of his journey leading the Cuban national team.

* Marcos Kwiek (Dominican Republic) bet on the emerging talent of his youth component.

* Nicola Negro (Mexico) emphasized the continuity of work after an extensive season.

* Erik Sullivan (USA) focused his strategy on giving experience to new athletes.
