Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) Executive President Luis González Delgado announced on Monday that 28,872 customers in the Metropolitan Region have regained potable water service following operational issues.

“These efforts have allowed us to restore service to more than 28,000 customers, and we remain focused on completing the system’s recovery,” González Delgado said in a written statement.

According to PRASA, 40,000 customers were initially affected by service interruptions. At the time of the report, some 11,218 customers remained without potable water.

One of the incidents occurred at the Enrique Ortega La Plata Filtration Plant, where electrical problems in a control panel caused two of the system’s pumps to go offline.

PRASA indicated that the situation reduced the plant’s operational capacity and caused the only active pump at the Finca Rosso 1 Pumping Station in Guaynabo to shut down.

On Saturday night, around 10:15 p.m., the technical team managed to restore operations at Finca Rosso 1, allowing service to be restored in various sectors of Guaynabo.

The Finca Rosso 1 station is currently undergoing reconstruction following an incident last August, when a power fluctuation caused a sudden spike in system pressure and severe damage to facilities and equipment.

Separately, PRASA is investigating the causes of a drop in water production within the Superaqueduct system. Operational personnel are conducting inspections and site visits to check interconnections and conditions affecting production and distribution. González Delgado said he is in communication with mayors, legislators and elected officials from the potentially affected areas to coordinate mitigation measures, including the hauling and distribution of potable water to communities in need.

PRASA said it would continue providing updates via official platforms and urged customers in the affected areas to use potable water sparingly during recovery operations.
