University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (RUM by its acronym in Spanish) Interim Chancellor Miguel Muñoz Muñoz announced on Wednesday that the campus has initiated a gradual process to resume in-person operations following the reopening of campus access points.

“The gradual resumption of operations is part of the institutional efforts aimed at guaranteeing the continuity of the Campus’ academic and administrative services,” Muñoz stated in written remarks.

The reopening of access points took place in compliance with the permanent injunction issued by the Mayagüez Court.

As part of the first phase, personnel from Traffic and Security, Buildings and Grounds, and Health and Safety -- as well as deans and department directors -- resumed in-person duties during the workday.

Muñoz noted that work scheduled via remote modalities and telework would continue in the areas where applicable.

The campus will continue to evaluate the gradual return of other departments, while seeking to maintain a safe and orderly environment for academic, administrative and service-related activities, he added.

“Our call continues to be one of respect, dialogue, and university coexistence,” Muñoz stated.

The interim chancellor said that during this period, spaces for communication have been fostered with various sectors of the RUM community to address the issues that have been raised.
