San Juan District Sen. Juan Oscar Morales demanded immediate action on Wednesday from the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) to resolve the persistent water service outages affecting the communities of Cupey and Santurce.
“It is unacceptable that Cupey residents have been experiencing daily interruptions in their water service for more than three weeks,” Morales said in a written statement. “PRASA’s excuse of mechanical failures in the Cupey Water System’s pump system is not sufficient.”
The senator criticized PRASA for limiting itself to addressing each case individually, without offering a permanent solution to the problem. He insisted that citizens deserve certainty about the continuity of service, not partial responses every time a breakdown occurs.
Since July 18, service problems have also been reported on Calle del Valle, Calle Violeta, Calle Chícharo, at the Kennedy residential complex, at Casa Dominicana, and in Ocean Park and Isla Verde, which has increased concern among residents.
Morales made an urgent request for attention to the Monteflores condominium in Santurce, where elderly and disabled residents have been without water since July 16. Although the Municipality of San Juan managed to fill the Monteflores cistern to 61%, the water has already run out, worsening the situation.
The senator called on PRASA to implement concrete and definitive actions to restore stable water service to the affected communities.
