As part of Education Week, the island Education Department announced on Wednesday the awarding of 15 scholarships to outstanding students from the public school system selected to participate in the “Traveling Artists of Education” international fine arts program, an initiative aimed at talented young people in theater, acting, singing, dancing and other performing arts.
The program provides students with an educational and cultural experience focused on artistic development, leadership, discipline and integral growth.
As part of the recognition, each selected student received a $3,500 scholarship, for a total investment of $52,500 to support their participation in the international experience.
The initiative is part of the efforts of the administration of Gov. Jenniffer González Colón to continue expanding development opportunities for students in areas such as arts, sports, technology and other disciplines that promote talent, creativity and the comprehensive training of youth.
Education Secretary Eliezer Ramos Parés stressed the importance of continuing to support the talent and aspirations of students in the public system.
“During this Education Week we celebrate precisely the most valuable thing in our system: the talent, creativity and extraordinary capacity of our students,” he said. “... As a Department, we will continue to support opportunities that allow them to grow, discover their potential, and proudly represent their schools and Puerto Rico through art and culture.”
Deputy Secretary for Academic and Programmatic Affairs Beverly Morro Vega stressed that such initiatives strengthen the human and academic development of students through transformative experiences.
“Fine arts are a powerful tool for formation and social transformation,” she said. “This program allows our students to expand their knowledge, strengthen their self-esteem, develop leadership and live in cultural and educational spaces that enrich their vision of the world. It fills us with pride to see how our young people continue to stand out and take their talent to international stages.”
The international camp, presented by TPA Foundation (Teatro Por Amor Inc.), offers intensive workshops in musical theater, acting, body expression, scenic techniques, dance and singing, guided by recognized professionals in their fields.
