Treasury Secretary Ángel Pantoja Rodríguez announced on Thursday the disbursement of $100.3 million in initial tax relief payments to 221,381 taxpayers.

“We have already sent out a first batch of ‘Cheque para Ti’ [Check for You] payments to 221,381 taxpayers whose tax returns had already been processed and who met the requirements to receive the tax relief,” Pantoja Rodríguez said during a press conference.

The treasury secretary indicated that payments will be sent out daily over the next seven business days.

Pantoja Rodríguez said this phase will cover the majority of the 690,000 taxpayers expected to benefit from the tax relief.

The initial payments correspond to tax returns that have already been processed. Returns that are still under review will be included in the recalculation once their processing is complete.

“We are pleased with the programming and planning work carried out by the Treasury Department team to get this process up and running,” he said.

Pantoja Rodríguez affirmed that payments will be issued to eligible taxpayers in an efficient and secure manner.

The official noted that eligible individuals will receive a notification regarding the direct deposit or the mailing of their payment to the postal address on file.

The notification will also include information regarding the recalculation of the tax relief benefit.

The treasury chief noted that further information is available in Internal Revenue Circular 26-10, published on the website hacienda.pr.gov.
