Police reported on Tuesday that Gemillies Lozada Navarro, 25, a resident of Loíza, was slain after being intercepted on the Román Baldorioty de Castro Expressway -- at Exit 3, heading toward Río Piedras.
According to authorities, a call received at the precinct alerted them to gunshots in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Lozada Navarro shot inside a Hyundai Tucson.
The investigation suggests that José Carlos Sanjurjo Dávila, 26, also a resident of Loíza, intercepted the woman while she was traveling along the Baldorioty exit ramp toward highway PR-3. According to the police, the man rammed Lozada Navarro’s vehicle, causing her to crash into a guardrail.
Authorities indicated that Sanjurjo Dávila approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and shot the woman, killing her instantly.
Following the attack, the man returned to a Toyota Tacoma and attempted to take his own life, according to official reports. Sanjurjo Dávila was transported to Doctor Federico Trilla Hospital in Carolina, where his death was later pronounced.
Personnel from the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Carolina, along with the duty prosecutor, took charge of the investigation.
Police advised motorists to use alternate routes, as the roadway was to remain closed to facilitate investigative work at the scene.
The Puerto Rico Police Bureau urged anyone with information that could assist in solving this or other cases to call 787-343-2020, or to reach out via X (formerly Twitter) at @PRPDNoticias or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/prpdgov.
