José Rivera Ortiz, executive director of the Metropolitan Region of the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA), said Wednesday that repair work at the Sergio Cuevas Water Treatment Plant in Trujillo Alto is still ongoing.
Crews are currently addressing a leak in a 48-inch pipeline.
“Our priority at all times has been to handle this repair responsibly and safely, but above all, to restore potable water service to our people as soon as possible,” Rivera Ortiz said. “For this reason, our teams continue to work tirelessly until the intervention is complete and system recovery can begin immediately.”
System recovery will be gradual, the official said; therefore, service restoration times will vary depending on the elevation and distance of each sector.
Once the leak repair is finished, the PRASA operations team will immediately begin the process of gradually restoring the system to ensure the distribution network stabilizes and service is recovered in an orderly manner for the communities served by the system.
While work concludes and the system recovers, PRASA is continuing to coordinate potable water distribution via tanker trucks in conjunction with the Municipal Emergency Management Offices of affected municipalities.
