The island Senate held a special recognition ceremony earlier this week for young people belonging to the Police Athletic League, as part of an initiative led by the District III (Arecibo) Sen. Brenda Pérez Soto aimed at highlighting the work, discipline and commitment of the youth participating in the program.
Tuesday’s event impacted more than five chapters of the organization from the municipalities of Camuy, Hatillo, Arecibo, Manatí and Morovis, where more than 35 outstanding young people were recognized. Prior to the awards ceremony, the senator engaged in a close dialogue with the participants, highlighting not only the young people’s achievements but also the dedication of the youth workers involved in the program.
“The Police Athletic League celebrated its 83rd anniversary last April. Over time, this organization has forged extraordinary public servants and citizens,” Pérez Soto said. “Many of our young founders are no longer with us, but they paved the way for generations like the current one to enjoy better experiences within this organization. We are very proud to welcome them, talk with them, and contribute our small part with this recognition, which will serve as motivation to continue moving forward.”
Also participating in the event was Vega Alta Mayor María Vega Pagán. Pérez Soto expressed her gratitude for the support provided and reiterated the importance of continuing to foster spaces that promote the positive growth of young Puerto Ricans through programs such as the Police Athletic League.
