Correction and Rehabilitation Secretary Francisco Quiñones said Thursday that Anthonieska Avilés Cabrera, who is charged with the murder of Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario, is now detained at the Bayamón Correctional Complex.
The information was shared during an appearance on “El Calentón” when Quiñones was asked about the role of Víctor Ramos Otero, the island health secretary, in evaluating Avilés Cabrera’s case.
“She was in the custody of the Mental Health and Anti-Addiction Services Administration [ASSMCA by its initials in Spanish], not the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation,” Quiñones clarified. “Therefore, we don’t have the information to confirm if there was a visit because she wasn’t in our custody. We assumed custody of Anthonieska last night. The order arrived at 4 p.m., and by 7 p.m., she was already placed in one of our institutions.”
He emphasized that the 17-year-old is currently being held alone.
Previously, Avilés Cabrera was at a forensic psychiatric hospital in Ponce, where she was being evaluated by ASSMCA personnel. She is scheduled to appear this Friday at the Aibonito Court for her preliminary hearing in the case of the stabbing death of 16-year-old Pratts Rosario.
Ramos Otero, a pediatrician, has a dispensation to examine patients after working hours. He evaluated Avilés Cabrera because no other pediatrician wanted to get involved in the case, according to government officials.
