The Vaqueros of Bayamón, Gigantes of Carolina, Leones of Ponce and Mets of Guaynabo all recorded victories on Saturday in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN by its initials in Spanish).

At the Palacio de Recreación y Deportes, the Vaqueros defeated the host Indios of Mayagüez, 86-79.

The matchup began with a high-intensity, back-and-forth first quarter that ended tied at 21. In the second period, the game remained tight and highly executed on both sides, with the Indios taking a slight 39-37 lead into halftime.

After the break, the Indios (1-4) managed to maintain a slim lead, closing the third quarter ahead 65-61.

In the fourth quarter, the Vaqueros (4-1) elevated their game at just the right moment, executing more effectively on offense and locking down on defense to shift the momentum. Bayamón capitalized in the final minutes to complete the comeback, securing the victory with a final score of 86-79.

Jae Crowder finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal for the winners. Renaldo Balkman contributed 14 points, 9 rebounds, and a steal, while Javier Mójica finished with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

Elsewhere, at the Arquelio Torres Coliseum, the visiting Gigantes handed the Atléticos of San Germán their first loss of the season, 104-97.

The Gigantes (1-1), who had held a 14-point lead, watched as the hosts closed the gap -- eventually taking command of the game within the first two minutes of the fourth quarter -- thanks to a basket by Jorge Matos that gave San Germán (5-1) a 71-70 lead. With seven seconds remaining and the score standing at 88-87 in favor of the Atléticos, Jaylen Nowell stepped up to the free-throw line after drawing a foul from Antonio Gordon. He missed the first shot but made the second to send the game into five minutes of overtime.

With the scoreboard reading 92-90 in favor of San Germán, the Gigantes put together a 13-4 run to put the game away.

Hunter Tyson ignited the offensive burst with a long-range bomb, followed by another deep shot from Nowell that pushed the score to 96-92. Immediately thereafter, Gordon countered with a jump shot, but Kristian Doolittle added two more points with a hook shot in the paint, drawing a personal foul from Onzie Branch in the process.

Montrezl Harrell narrowed the gap with a two-handed dunk; however, Tyson converted a basket and the ensuing free throw to extend the visitors’ lead to 101-96.

Moments later, a steal by Doolittle and a pass to Nowell yielded the final two points of the run -- a sequence that forced head coach Eddie Casiano to call his final timeout in a losing effort, with the score at 103-96.

Tyson led the Gigantes with 28 points and seven rebounds, while Nowell finished the night with 22 points and four rebounds. Tremont Waters contributed 15 points, while both Doolittle and Daniel Rivera finished with 10 points apiece.

Harrell tallied 24 points and 17 rebounds for San Germán, followed by André Curbelo with 23 points. Nick Perkins added 21 points and 11 rebounds.

At Fernando “Rube” Hernández Coliseum in Gurabo, the Mets outlasted the Capitanes of Arecibo, 93-91.

Guaynabo (2-2) dominated the first quarter, establishing a commanding 31-12 lead, but Arecibo (3-2) mounted a 12-0 run at the end of the first half to narrow the gap.

Although the Capitanes managed to make adjustments and neutralize certain threats in the second half, the Mets maintained their composure, relying on the duo of Jaysean Paige and Ismael Romero.

Paige came up big for the Mets, scoring 30 points and sinking the deciding basket with 4.3 seconds left on the clock. Romero, meanwhile, recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Australian import Jack McVeigh led the Capitanes with 22 points, and rookie Rafael Pinzón scored 21.

Finally, at Juan “Pachín” Vicéns Auditorium in Ponce, the Leones defeated the Piratas of Quebradillas, 102-90.

Ponce (2-4) jumped out to a 31-16 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

The Leones extended the lead to 27 points -- 52-25 -- in the second quarter following a three-pointer by Avry Holmes with 2:24 left on the clock. Ponce went into halftime with a comfortable 54-37 advantage.

Terence Davis spearheaded the Leones’ attack with 22 points, while Alejandro Vázquez contributed 21. Jezreel de Jesús  tallied 19 points, Isaiah Hicks added 13 points and Christian Negrón contributed 10.

Emmanuel Mudiay led the Piratas (0-4) with 29 points, followed by Dimencio Vaughn with 13 points, Víctor Liz with 11 and Kendall Munson with 10.
