By The Star Staff

The Puerto Rican Diabetes Association is returning with its free interactive event Expo Diabetes, this time at San Patricio Plaza, from Thursday, March 21 to Sunday, March 24, to educate and raise awareness about diabetes.

“The incidence of diabetes in our country is alarming and continues to rise, posing a serious threat to public health,” said Brenda Padilla, executive director of the Puerto Rican Diabetes Association, in a written statement. “It is necessary to take urgent measures to address this situation and promote healthy lifestyle habits that can help prevent and control this disease.”

At Expo Diabetes, health professionals will offer their care and support to people who attend the event on the mall’s central stage. A variety of programs will include workshops and educational content, informative talks, story readings by the publisher Con Pluma Papel, health clinics (including checking and monitoring glucose, weight, blood pressure and nutrition), exhibits, massage stations, and healthy cooking demonstrations.

On Friday, renowned chef Giovanna Huyke will be in charge of the Cooking Lab, presenting a delicious healthy recipe, while on Saturday, Chef Eliezer Rosa will share a special recipe designed to help decrease cardiovascular problems in those living with type 2 diabetes.

Also, on Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon the 3rd edition of ForoNutrición will be held with a panel of experts.

Various organizations, associations, and businesses will be present to educate people on topics relevant to those living with prediabetes, diabetes, or other chronic conditions, as well as those who wish to prevent them.
