Five homicides recorded over the weekend

Police on Monday reported five homicides in Puerto Rico between Friday and Sunday.


According to authorities, the first slaying occurred in San Juan in the early hours of Friday morning. The police, during a preventive patrol, found a bullet-ridden body in a vehicle on the John F. Kennedy Avenue marginal in Santurce. The male victim has not yet been identified.


Police said that in Gurabo, 26-year-old Eddie Morales Castro was killed Friday night. He had a gunshot wound to the chest and died at a local hospital.


On Saturday, in Juana Díaz, David Morales Ortiz, 29, died after an altercation in front of a business establishment. That same night, in Juncos, a man and a woman were shot and wounded; the man later died at a hospital.


Another homicide was reported on Sunday, in Humacao. A man, still unidentified, was found dead with a stab wound on the premises of the Son de la Playa establishment.


In addition, two fatal accidents occurred over the weekend according to the police report, one in Yauco and the other in San Juan, both involving motorcycles. Two suicides were also reported, one in Vega Baja and one in Río Grande, as well as three gunshot wounds in separate incidents.


With the preceding figures, the total number of homicides on the island in 2024, as of early Monday, stood at eight, compared to 19 in the same period in 2023.
