Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR) President Sara Rosario Vélez announced this week the athletes who will carry the Puerto Rican flag during the opening ceremony of the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games, to be held Aug. 9 in Paraguay.

Following a secret ballot by the COPUR Plenary, the following were selected as flag bearers:

Gladymar Torres – Track & field

Steven Moreno – Table tennis.

“This election represents one of the greatest honors an athlete can receive in their career,” Rosario Vélez said late Wednesday in a written statement. “Our flag bearers not only represent the talent of our athletic youth, but also the hope, character, and passion of a country that proudly supports them. They embody the best of this generation and will be an inspiration to the entire Delegation in Asunción. When they raise the flag in this ceremony, they will also be raising the heart of Puerto Rico.”

The Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games will be held from Aug. 9 to Aug. 23.
