The autopsy in the case was performed on Sunday. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation by hanging and the manner of death was suicide.

Sáez Rivera, who was 41 years old, was reported missing by his wife Alexandra Chévere Rivera on the night of Friday, Dec. 1 in the town of Barranquitas. He was last seen that same day at around 6:35 a.m. at his residence on highway PR-152 in the Quebradilla neighborhood of Barranquitas, when he left as usual to work for the Barranquitas Higher Vocational School.

He was a teacher at the school and his wife, upon noticing that he did not return in the afternoon, went to the school and was informed that Sáez Rivera did not report to work that day.
