The Artesanas of Las Piedras secured their place in the final series of the Puerto Rico Women’s Baseball League championship after defeating the Ponys of Santa Isabel 14-7 at Luis “Tony” Martínez Park in the Felicia neighborhood of Las Piedras on Sunday.


With the victory, Las Piedras completed a 3-0 sweep in the semifinals against Santa Isabel, a team playing in the league’s postseason tournament for the first time.


The game was decided in the top of the fourth inning, when the Artesanas exploded for nine runs and what proved to be an insurmountable lead.


On the mound, Angelis Rivera earned the win after pitching 4.1 innings, while Mirelys Adorno completed the game in relief. Offensively, Brenda Berríos scored three runs, and Lisuanet Flores drove in two runs and scored twice. Michelle Ciuro took the loss for the Ponys.
