LUMA recently held an event in San Juan called “LUMA in Your Community,” which emphasized the importance of active employee participation in local communities while promoting safety, energy efficiency and available customer programs.
During the event, LUMA employees contributed non-perishable items to local residents in Santurce and El Gandul, as well as to participants in the Fondita de Jesús program, as a way of demonstrating the company’s commitment to supporting communities through its three pillars: youth education and well-being, economic development and recovery, and energy management.
Local businesses also participated in the event, gathering at LUMA facilities to learn about energy-saving programs, such as energy-saving kits, that can help reduce their electricity bills. In addition, educational talks on safety best practices were offered, focusing on staying safe around power lines during the holiday season and throughout the year.
“Everyone in Puerto Rico needs a community that supports us and neighbors that we can count on when we need them the most and who bring us hope and a supportive hug to keep moving forward. That is what we want to achieve with this initiative, to be the best neighbor for our communities in Santurce and throughout Puerto Rico,” said Noriette Figueroa, vice president of customer service at LUMA. “’LUMA in Your Community’ demonstrates our emphasis on safety and the company’s unwavering commitment to our communities to build together a bright, inclusive, supportive, and hopeful future for all.”
As part of its commitment to safety and sustainability, LUMA launched the “Brilla con Seguridad” Christmas campaign in November to promote safe and efficient energy consumption practices during the holiday season. The campaign includes a discount program at participating stores, allowing customers to purchase energy-efficient products, such as LED lights and ENERGY STAR-certified appliances, with significant savings. To date, more than 50,000 products have been sold, generating $200,000 in savings for customers.
Additionally, LUMA promotes sustainable holiday gifts and incentives such as rebates for energy-efficient equipment.
