Authorities on Thursday were investigating an incident in which a person allegedly tried to damage the sculpture of composer Catalino “Tite” Curet Alonzo, at around 12:39 a.m. in Plaza de Armas at the intersection of Rafael Cordero and San Francisco streets in Old San Juan.
According to the police report, municipal police officers from San Juan arrested a 41-year-old man who allegedly damaged the sculpture.
Prosecutors on Thursday filed charges against a man identified as Yamil Abnel Caño Matos, a resident of Río Piedras, who was arrested by officer Cruxan Claudio.
A security guard who was working his shift at a nearby government building witnessed the incident. The arrested man was placed in a municipal police holding cell while the case was being consulted with the prosecutor on duty.
No estimate of the damages had been made available as of press time.
