The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico has requested that the island government submit executive orders for prior review and approval.
In a statement, the oversight board expressed appreciation for the government’s engagement in discussing the board’s policies and procedures but emphasized the importance of adhering to the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management and Economic Stability Act, commonly known as PROMESA, and the board’s Rules, Regulations and Orders Review Policy.
Since Jan. 2 of this year, the oversight board has been reviewing executive orders issued by the government to ensure alignment with the fiscal plan and advance shared goals.
The board said it encourages open communication and collaboration with the government, urging officials to submit executive orders before their issuance to maintain compliance with legal requirements.
The oversight board said it remains committed to working together with the central government for the benefit of the island’s residents. Both entities are expected to continue dialogue and coordinate efforts to promote transparency and economic stability in Puerto Rico.
