PDP begins processes for early, absentee voting in primary

By The Star Staff

Looking ahead to the primaries to be held Sunday, June 2, Popular Democratic Party (PDP) Electoral Commissioner Karla Angleró and PDP Secretary General Gerardo “Toñito” Cruz announced Thursday the start of the early voting and absentee voting.

“After the process of submitting endorsements has closed, the PDP is ready to begin working on early voting and absentee voting requests for the June 2 primary,” Angleró said. “Those interested will be able to access the form through our website www.ppdpr.net or through the page of the State Elections Commission [SEC].”

Officials added that the deadline to request participation in the early or advanced vote is April 13, while April 18 is the deadline to request an absentee ballot. On April 13, the electoral registry and voting requests for those in prison also closes.

“To be eligible for one of these modalities, the applicant must meet these requirements to exercise their vote,” Cruz Maldonado added. “The active members of the armed forces, Merchant Marine members, students in any educational institution, spouse or dependent of the voter in the categories mentioned above or athletes and or technical personnel participating in sports competitions representing PR abroad, are the people who qualify for absentee voting.”

Meanwhile, those eligible for early voting are employees of the SEC, voters 60 years of age or older, voters who are the only person available in the family nucleus of their home to care for minors under 14 years of age, people with impediments or obvious limitation of mobility or being bedridden that prevents them from attending their polling station, voters with a restriction or obvious limitation of mobility or being bedridden and voters in accommodation houses, which are those voters with special conditions who are residents of homes, even if it is not their address reported in your electoral registry.
